HI there!

I'm Zoe Gunter

Zoe Gunter (b. 2004) uses slow and soft processes, such as crocheting, knitting, sewing, and spinning, to explore themes of personal reflection, nostalgia, and craft. Originally from Houston, TX, Gunter first discovered her passion for fiber arts through learning to crochet in high school and is now a BFA candidate at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, expected to graduate in the spring of 2026. While experimenting with slow making techniques, she explores themes of personal experiences and memories by looking critically at materials and processes through an aesthetic lens reflective of girlhood. While Gunter’s work has a cutesy look, she explores bold ideas that compel her audience to look closely at her intentions through her processes, materials, and motifs.

What I'm up to now...

I’m working towards my BFA in studio arts with a focus in fiber and material studies at SAIC! My practice involves a lot of slow making techniques using soft materials like yarn and fabric. My interests in fiber art stemmed from crocheting then branched out into so many other fiber techniques, and creating strong messages through my art. I’m fascinated by the way the same materials can be used in so many different ways and the slow hands-on processes that are involved in many fiber techniques I use. I enjoy sharing my love for textiles and teaching others the techniques I know.
As for other artistic endeavors, I've been experimenting with making comics and plan to incorporate them into my fibers work!! I'm also looking into making my own yarn/rope through spinning.
